Terms of service

Last updated: 29 May 2026

By downloading, installing, or using Kerbnow ("the app"), you agree to these terms. If you do not agree, do not use the app.

1. About Kerbnow

Kerbnow is a UK parking sign decoder for iOS and Android. It uses your phone's camera to read parking signs and tell you whether you can park there given the current day and time. Kerbnow is built by Shacksolutions LTD, registered in England and Wales. We are not affiliated with any council, government body, or parking enforcement authority.

2. Eligibility

To use Kerbnow, you must:

  • Be at least 18 years of age
  • Be the holder of a valid UK driving licence (or the licensed driver of the vehicle you are parking)
  • Have the legal capacity to enter into a binding agreement
  • Not have been previously banned from using the app

3. Account registration

You may use the app anonymously or create an account using Apple Sign In or Google Sign In. If you create an account:

  • You are responsible for maintaining the security of your account credentials
  • You are responsible for all activities that occur under your account
  • You must not share your account with others
  • You must notify us immediately of any unauthorised access

Cross-device sync of saved spots requires a signed-in account. See our privacy policy for details of data handling.

4. Acceptable use

You agree to use the app only for lawful purposes. You may not:

  • Operate the camera while driving the vehicle
  • Use Kerbnow to evade lawful parking enforcement
  • Reverse-engineer, decompile, or attempt to extract the decoder model weights
  • Use automated systems to access the app (bots, scrapers, etc.) or to harvest decoder outputs at scale
  • Submit deliberately false or misleading sign photos to corrupt the training set
  • Impersonate any person or entity
  • Use the app for commercial purposes (resale of decoded answers, integration into other parking apps, etc.) without our written permission
  • Attempt to gain unauthorised access to our systems
  • Interfere with or disrupt the app's operation
  • Circumvent any security measures or device bans

5. How to treat the decoder's output

By using the decoder you acknowledge that:

  • Kerbnow is a decoding aid, not a final ruling. You should always double-check the answer against the sign in front of you before parking. Signs can be faded, contradicted by council orders, misprinted, or temporarily suspended for works.
  • The driver is responsible. Final responsibility for compliance with parking restrictions rests with you, regardless of Kerbnow's output.
  • Edge cases happen. Where a sign is genuinely ambiguous or contradicted by a Traffic Regulation Order, Kerbnow flags it rather than guessing. Treat such flags as a prompt to find another spot or check the council's published rules directly.

If you believe Kerbnow misread a sign, please raise it with us through the in-app report flow or by email. We will investigate within a working day, update the decoder if it misread, and where appropriate help you chase the relevant council if the underlying sign is incorrect.

6. Information accuracy

While we strive to provide accurate decoder output and council-rule data, we make no guarantees about the accuracy, completeness, reliability, or timeliness of any information in the app. This includes but is not limited to:

  • Decoded answers from camera input
  • Postcode-level restriction summaries
  • "Move the car" reminders and countdown timers
  • Bank holiday and Sunday rule handling
  • Suspension and event-related closures

Always check the sign yourself before relying on the decoder. Do not rely solely on this app for time-sensitive parking decisions.

7. Intellectual property

The app's design, code, decoder model, and original content are the intellectual property of Shacksolutions LTD and are protected by copyright and database-rights law. You may not copy, modify, distribute, train derivative models, or create competing services from our outputs without our written permission.

8. Privacy

Your use of the app is also governed by our privacy policy, which describes how we collect, use, and protect your data. By using the app, you consent to our data practices as described in that policy.

9. Account suspension and termination

We may suspend or terminate your access to the app at any time, with or without notice, for any reason, including:

  • Violation of these terms
  • Submitting falsified sign photos or abusing the report flow
  • Behaviour that negatively affects other users or the app's operation
  • At our sole discretion for security or operational reasons

Device bans may prevent you from creating new accounts. If you believe a ban was applied in error, email us at kerbnow@shack.solutions.

10. Limitation of liability

The app is provided "as is" and "as available" without warranties of any kind, either express or implied, including but not limited to warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement.

To the maximum extent permitted by law, we shall not be liable for:

  • Parking fines, penalty charge notices, towing fees, or vehicle damage incurred while relying on the decoder
  • Any damages resulting from your use of or inability to use the app
  • Unauthorised access to your account or personal information
  • Council changes to restrictions that are not yet reflected in the decoder
  • Any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages

Our maximum liability to you is limited to the amount you have paid us in the previous twelve months, or £100, whichever is greater. Nothing in these terms excludes our liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, or for fraud, or any liability that cannot be excluded under UK consumer law.

11. Indemnification

You agree to indemnify, defend, and hold harmless Shacksolutions LTD, our contributors, and our affiliates from any claims, damages, losses, or expenses (including legal fees) arising from your use of the app or your violation of these terms.

12. Third-party services

The app integrates with third-party services (Apple Sign In, Google Sign In, AWS, Neon, PostHog, Expo, Apple Maps). We are not responsible for the content, policies, or practices of these third parties. Your use of third-party services is at your own risk and subject to their terms.

13. Pricing and purchases

Your first sign decode is free. Unlimited decoding requires Kerbnow Pro, available as a monthly subscription (£4.99), an annual subscription (£24.99), or a one-time Lifetime purchase (£79.99). Pro also includes scan history and move-the-car alerts. Saved spots remain usable without Pro.

For all purchases:

  • You will agree to the price displayed at the time of purchase
  • Payment will be processed through the Apple App Store or Google Play Store
  • Subscription products auto-renew unless cancelled through your app store account settings
  • Refunds will be handled by Apple or Google through their respective channels
  • Prices may change with reasonable notice

14. Changes to terms

We may modify these terms at any time. Significant changes will be notified through the app. Your continued use after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the new terms. We encourage you to review these terms periodically. The "Last updated" date at the top indicates when these terms were last revised.

15. Governing law

These terms shall be governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of England and Wales. Any disputes shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of England and Wales. If you are resident in Scotland or Northern Ireland, you retain the consumer-law rights applicable in your jurisdiction.

16. Severability

If any provision of these terms is found to be unenforceable, the remaining provisions will continue in full force and effect.

17. Entire agreement

These terms, together with our privacy policy, constitute the entire agreement between you and Kerbnow regarding your use of the app and supersede any prior agreements.
